Throughout the years, this organisation has played a pivotal role in advancing Alzheimer’s research.
It has transitioned from providing some initial funding for Alzheimer’s research conducted by others, to actively conducting Alzheimer’s research in state-of-the-art facilities whilst collaborating broadly to deliver the best possible impact.
As we reflect on our journey, it’s noteworthy that our identity has evolved in tandem with our growth, leading to several name changes that mirror the dynamic nature of our commitment to progress in Alzheimer’s research.
While at UWA, Professor Martins first established a research laboratory at Hollywood Repatriation General Hospital in Nedlands, Perth.
The Sir James McCusker Alzheimer’s Disease Research Unit was established when Western Australian philanthropist Sir James McCusker provided funding through UWA for student research projects under Professor Martin’s supervision.
McCusker Foundation for Alzheimer’s Disease Research has its first board meeting.
The Foundation is renamed the McCusker Alzheimer’s Research Foundation.
Professor Martins becomes Professor of Ageing and Alzheimer’s at Edith Cowan University.
The Foundation purchases a facility at Hollywood Medical Centre to enable research expansion.
A clinical research facility was opened on Stirling Highway in Nedlands, WA with funding from Lotterywest.
The organisation is renamed to the Australian Alzheimer’s Research Foundation in order to embrace its position as a global leader in Alzheimer’s research.
Facilities and administration move to new facilities at the Ralph and Patricia Sarich Neuroscience Research Institute in Nedlands, Perth.
World-renowned actor Bryan Brown becomes an ambassador for the Foundation.
