Since our inception in 2000, we’ve been at the forefront of the battle against Alzheimer’s disease. We’ve pioneered new scientific research and innovative initiatives aimed at reducing the impact of this formidable adversary. Our journey has been one of remarkable growth and transformation.

From Humble Beginnings to Leading the Way
Our journey began in 1993 in a single laboratory at Hollywood Repatriation General Hospital, in Western Australia. Over the years, we’ve been known by different names – the Sir James McCusker Alzheimer’s Disease Research Unit, the McCusker Alzheimer’s Research Foundation, and the Australian Alzheimer’s Research Foundation. Throughout these changes, we’ve consistently reflected our commitment to advancing scientific knowledge.
By changing its name to Alzheimer’s Research Australia in January 2024, the organisation aims to recognise its activities aligned to that of a medical research institute whilst maintaining its absolute focus on Alzheimer’s research. This is a significant milestone for the organisation and captures the essence of our work and underscores our commitment to finding effective treatments and ultimately a cure for Alzheimer’s disease.
