Dementia is now the #1 cause of death in Australia, but getting a diagnosis can take a year or more – time that someone with Alzheimer’s simply doesn’t have.
The demand for timely diagnosis, specialist care and treatment has already outpaced the capacity of the current healthcare system, leaving many Australians with no choice but to wait.
This is why the Alzheimer’s Research Australia (ARA) Memory Hub has been created.
By bringing specialist clinicians and researchers together in one location, it aims to provide earlier diagnosis, expert care and access to the latest advances in dementia treatment and research.
Memory Hub is a monumental leap forward in the prevention, detection, and treatment of Alzheimer’s and other dementias, at a time when the need has never been greater.
A turning point for Alzheimer’s detection and prevention
The Memory Hub is a monumental leap forward in the prevention, detection, and treatment of Alzheimer’s and other dementias.
This new model of dementia care integrates prevention, diagnosis, treatment, research and clinical trials within a single, coordinated service – a level of care that is notoriously difficult to access in Australia.
Here, research and patient care will inform one another.
It means that research discoveries can more easily be carried into clinical practice, and patients benefit from emerging therapies and evidence-based care as they become available.
While this Memory Hub is based in Perth, it has been designed as a scalable model that Alzheimer’s Research Australia will use as the foundation for future Memory Hubs across Australia, helping improve access to world-class dementia care nationwide.

What services you can expect
For many, getting a dementia diagnosis and care is a lengthy process. Multiple referrals, separate specialist appointments, and long delays are frustrating and hinder timely care.
With this in mind, the Memory Hub has been designed as a fully integrated memory care facility, providing a vehicle for early diagnosis, treatment planning, research and follow-up all under one roof.
Services are expected to include:
- comprehensive cognitive and neurological assessments
- neuropsychological testing
- diagnostic imaging referrals
- blood-based and other biomarker investigations
- personalised treatment planning
- medication management
- lifestyle and risk-reduction guidance
- access to clinical trials
- research participation opportunities
- ongoing monitoring
While the Memory Hub will operate as an independent clinical service, we are committed to making our services as accessible and affordable as possible. Some consultations and services are expected to be eligible for Medicare rebates, depending on the type of appointment, referral pathway and specialist involved.

Frequently asked questions
When exactly will the Memory Hub officially open to the public?
The Memory Hub is currently in the final stages of planning and fundraising. We look forward to welcoming our first patients once construction, fit-out and commissioning are complete. Project updates will be shared on this page as key milestones are reached.
Will a GP referral be required to access the Hub’s services?
A GP referral is expected to be required for some specialist consultations and services, particularly where Medicare rebates may apply.
What specific stages of cognitive decline or types of dementia will you treat?
The Memory Hub will provide assessment, diagnosis and treatment (for those eligible), for people with Alzheimer’s disease and a range of other memory disorders and dementias.
This includes people experiencing cognitive changes, those with mild cognitive impairment, and individuals seeking assessment because they may be at increased risk of developing dementia.
Will the services at the Memory Hub be covered by Medicare or private health insurance?
The Memory Hub will operate as an independent clinical service. Some consultations and services are expected to attract Medicare rebates, depending on the specialist involved and the nature of the appointment.

How is the construction and operation of the Memory Hub being funded?
The Memory Hub is being made possible through a combination of philanthropy, community donations, partnerships and income generated through the pharmaceutical-sponsored clinical trials.
Importantly, revenue generated by the Memory Hub will be reinvested into Alzheimer’s Research Australia’s research programs, helping accelerate the discovery of new diagnostic tools, prevention and new treatments and improve dementia care for future generations.

Absolutely. Alzheimer’s Research Australia looks forward to celebrating this important milestone with our supporters. Opportunities to visit the Memory Hub and attend future community events will be shared as the project progresses.
How does the Memory Hub connect directly to Alzheimer’s Research Australia’s ongoing clinical trials?
The Memory Hub has been designed to work alongside Alzheimer’s Research Australia’s internationally recognised research and clinical trials programs.
Where appropriate and if eligible, patients may have the opportunity to participate in clinical trials investigating new diagnostic approaches and emerging treatments, helping bring tomorrow’s therapies to today’s patients. Preventive or observational studies may also be available, but please note that a lot of studies are only recruited for during certain periods.
